For a long time, the suicide rate in Greece was one of the lowest in Europe. During the last three years, growing rapidly though - reaching its highest level on the continent. Greek Ministry of Health, calculates the number of suicides during the first five months of 2011 compared to the year before, increasing by 40 percent. Three years ago the rate was accordingly 2.8 per 100,000 inhabitants - now almost doubled.

According to the Greek Health Authority also increased the number of suicide attempts. Calling Counseling services quadrupled. "There is never just one cause," citing British Guardian by a Greek psychologist, working with such a counseling center. "But almost always be debt, unemployment or the fear of dismissal mentioned when people speak of suicide. "Before the crisis there had been about ten calls per day, so the psychologist. Currently, there are some days more than 100.

In Athens alone, according to official figures there are 200,000 homeless people. Mayor G. Kaminis speaks of an increase by 20 percent over the previous year. In the soup kitchens of the city demand increased by 15 per cent.

The head of the Church's aid arm of the Diocese of Athens, S. Chrysostom said, there are more people on free food banks. Nationwide his organization offer about 250,000 meals per week. According to official information during the past year, about 320,000 Greeks lost work, unemployment rate at more than 17 per cent has a new record high.

Fresh peppers, onions, cut into small pieces, combine

Greece (Ελλάδα), also known as Hellas and officially the Hellenic Republic (Ελληνική Δημοκρατία) is a country in southeastern Europe. Modern Greece traces its roots to the civilization of ancient Greece, generally considered the cradle of Western civilization. As such, it is the birthplace of democracy, Western philosophy, Olympic Games, Western literature and historiography, political science, major scientific and mathematical principles, university education, coinage, and Western drama.

This legacy is partly reflected in the seventeen UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in Greece, ranking Greece 7th in Europe and 13th in the world. The modern Greek state was established in 1830.

Greece became the tenth member of the European Union on 01 January 1981, ushering a period of remarkable and sustained economic growth. Widespread investments in industrial enterprises and heavy infrastructure, as well as funds from the European Union and growing revenues from tourism, shipping and a fast-growing service sector have raised the country's standard of living to unprecedented levels.

The name drachma is derived from the verb δράσσομαι ("to grasp"). Initially a drachma was a fistful of six oboloí or obeloí (metal sticks, literally "spits") used as a form of currency as early as 1100 BC.

The government would have to apply capital control and limitation to the amount of withdraws per month, per week for citizens. Export of money in other countries would be prohibited. In addition, Greek banks would have to write off loans amounting to at least 50 per cent. Because Greek banks would not be able to offer value, access to central bank money would be closed. International gamers would hunt the drachma and speculate against the Greek economy.

Ochi Day (Anniversary of the "No") is celebrated throughout Greece, Cyprus and the Greek communities around the world on October 28th, to commemorate Greek Prime Minister I. Metaxas'rejection of the ultimatum made by B. Mussolini.

This ultimatum, which was presented to Metaxas demanded that Greece allow forces to enter Greek territory and occupy certain "strategic locations" or otherwise face war. It was allegedly answered with: OXI (No). The reply was: Alors, c'est la guerre (Then it is war).

On the morning of October 28 the Greek population took to the streets, irrespective of political affiliation, shouting 'ochi'. From 1942, it was celebrated as Ohi Day
